All-out effort

If someone blossoms in his career and gets an executive job, a remarkable phenomenon often occurs. To get to the top, someone uses a mix of talent, competence and ambition. However what I see in practice is that most people insufficiently invest in building a professional network, despite it becoming more and more important to keep on performing successfully, both in your current job as well as for the future. The average lifespan of the top-jobs is dropping towards the 3,5 year mark. The era of lifetime employment is over and almost all employers act like it. A professional network could come in useful to up your performance in your current job. But when it’s time to take the next step in your career the network can offer you many possibilities too. Sowing the seeds at the right time ensures a good harvest later on.

Besides your technical competencies, your personal development and professional network are becoming more important in your career. As a person, how do you handle all of the experiences you gain in work and life? How do you process them? In what way do they alter your character? And as an outcome of this, how does this translate to your leadership? The most effective leaders are; this has been confirmed in multiple studies, people who work as a ‘level 5 leader’. People who work for an organisation and don’t let their egos influence their behaviour.
